♠ The Virginia Reggae Awards

The Virginia Reggae award recognizes those who work tirelessly to keep the Virginia Reggae music scene vibrant. The V.R.A is the people’s award. It is totally up to YOU the general public to decide the outcome. YOU decide, from the submission of names to the final winners! Voting is the only way to guarantee that your favorites win the V.R.A. Nomination is quite lenient; as this is the first award show. Any works done between 1st January 2005 and 31st December 2007 are eligible for the 2008 awards.

The cut-off date for submitting names is 6th February 2008.

♠ Submitting names:

• Anyone can submit names of individuals affiliated with the Virginia reggae community.
• Individuals can submit their own names.
• Everyone is invited to submit names for each category.

The top three (3) nominees in each category will move on to round two. The more you submit names, the greater the chance of your favorite being one of the top three nominees. Only the top three (3) will advance to stage two (2) of the voting process. Names must be submitted @ VirginiaReggaeAwards.com

♠ Round two (2) voting begins 7th February 2008

In round two, you will be asked to vote for a winner in each category. The nominee who receives the most votes will be the winner. Round two Voting starts 7th February 2008.

• There will only be one winner per category
• The favorite song award is the only shared award. This award is only shared if someone other than the singer wrote the song.
• Voting results will not be visible to the public; this is to ensure that winners will not be known until the actual award ceremony.

Final voting ends at noon on 9th May 2008 (Award Show date is 10th May 2008)..

• Promoters Award: Awarded to YOUR favorite promoter.
• Producers Awards: Awarded to YOUR favorite producer.
• Sound System Award: Awarded to YOUR favorite sound system.
• Favorite Song Award: Awarded to the singer and writer of YOUR favorite song.
• Favorite Album Award: Awarded to the artist YOU believe has the best album.
• Favorite Band award: Awarded to YOUR favorite BAND.
• Media Award: Awarded to YOUR favorite MEDIA personnel.
• New Artist Award: Awarded to YOUR favorite NEW ARTIST.
• Favorite Artist Award: Awarded to YOUR favorite artist.
• Va. Reggae Ambassador Award: Awarded to the person YOU think works hardest on the Va. reggae scene.

♠ Volunteers:

We have secured the services of Virginia’s finest and international acts to perform during the award show. The award show is scheduled for the 10th May 2008. We have a few slots available and would certainly consider YOUR services if you wish to perform. We need your assistance even if you are not a performer. See a need, fill a need! We encourage all positive input to facilitate a smooth process. The show venue will be announced shortly. The award show will be a free event.
